Lodge Key Features

Walking Safaris

Although not the first activity you would think of in the Lower Zambezi, the walking safaris at Chongwe are especially good. Adventure through the north at the foothills of the escarpment near the waterfalls to try and find the rarely seen Samango or Blue Monkeys, Klipspringers and Bush pigs.

Wildlife

Chongwe is technically within the GMA (game management area) of the Lower Zambezi but don’t let that put you off. Its location is famous for an abundance of wildlife, which means you don’t actually have to leave camp to be in the middle of the action. From the herds of elephants who visit the river and floodplain to the high numbers of wild dog in the area, the park has no fences and the animals know no boundaries! If you do want more time in the park you can easily arrange for your excellent guide to take you on a full day excursion with a delicious packed lunch where you can spend endless hours tracking down the wildlife to your hearts content!

Rooms are amazing but for a small supplement

Chongwe has a variety of different rooming options. Each tent is beautifully decorated however if you are there for a special occasion or as part of a family group why not consider upgrading to the suites and the house? With private staff and guides you can follow your own schedule, relax in privacy and have the flexibility to do as you wish when you wish. Treat yourself to something special and enjoy the luxury of becoming an even bigger VIP.

Client Reviews

  • Unforgettable natural safari experience

My first ever safari and the memory will stay with us forever. Huge thanks to Flossy, Allan & the team for making our trip so unforgettable. The small plane flight from Lusaka to Royal Airstrip was a dramatic and exhilarating start to our adventure. The welcome we received entering Chongwe was amazing, super friendly and perfect from the word go. We had an amazingly generous upgrade as it was end of the season. Our tent, pool, personal bar…mind blown! Plus superb service from Sywester & Given, they truly looked after us.

  • Garden of Eden setting on the Chongwe River

Everything about this place was idyllic! The setting on the Chongwe River was to die for. Each thatched roof chalet has it’s own porch to sit on with a room and bed facing the river in complete privacy, with the occasional elephant coming for a visit! The food was first class and the staff were the best, especially the manager, Flossie, Nezzi in charge of housekeeping and Michael, who took us on a pontoon lunch cruise on the Zambezi to celebrate our wedding anniversary and 2nd honeymoon.

  • All Around Fabulous

Camp has a fantastic location on the river. Sat outside and watched elephants cross over, wading hippos. Tent was comfortable with great amenities. Food was excellent, and special dishes were made for my vegetarian diet. Staff goes out of their way to ensure you are comfortable. The best part are the activities – boat ride, canoe, day and night game drives, walking safari, and a wonderful guide. Highly recommended.
