Mwamba Bush Camp is the sister camp to Kaingo owned by Shenton Safaris and is a proper “bush camp”. The four thatched chalets have open (but private) bathrooms so you can see the wild bush around you as you wash off the dust from your activities. It has all the comforts you would need along with an almost untraceable eco-footprint.
The camp was originally set up to help combat poaching in the area, which is evident by the now abundant wildlife. The food is brilliant, the guides are incredible, the activities are perfect for great sightings and better pictures! All in all, we highly recommend you visit.

The Shenton properties are a firm favourite of photographers and one of the reasons for this (aside from the incredible wildlife) is the hides. At Mwamba, they have a three-level hide around the back of the camp next to a waterhole. This means you can get some incredible, and different, angles of the animals – from above, eye level and below at water level which really gives the wow factor for up close and personal photos. Even if you have an iPhone at hand it’s the perfect place to get that WOW shot.
As with Kaingo, the guides at Shenton are some of the best. Mwamba is set up for some incredible walking safaris in an area that is completely untouched by other camps. If you want to leave the hide and take the thrill of seeing animals on foot, here is the place to do it.
All the guides are trained to the highest standard. Let them supervise you through the sightings as well as explaining, what I think, are arguably the more interesting smaller creatures, plants, insects and birds of the valley.
With only four chalets, there will only ever be a maximum of eight people at the camp, so it is entirely possible you will have, not only your guide to yourself but an incredibly personal experience.
You can enjoy candlelit dinners under the stars, private walks, drives and time in the hide. With lots of places to spot the wildlife at camp you may even choose to spend a day just watching what goes by. The attention to detail and high level of service makes you feel as special as you should when in the romance of the bush.
