Bilimungwe is a rustic yet elegant camp, the thatch fits perfectly into the landscape among the ebony trees, three waterholes and the river, it is a paradise for the animals as well as guests.
The camp consists of four chalets, there is a huge focus on attention to detail and guest satisfaction. The chalets have open sides, allowing you to enjoy uninterrupted views of the surrounding wildlife. If you require a bit of extra privacy one of the chalets is set exclusively from the others.
An amazing star deck has recently been built and Bilimungwe, it has become a hub activity for guests. Be it learning about the southern skies, enjoying a candlelit dinner with a loved one or practising yoga at sunrise. It is undoubtedly a top spot for embracing the safari experience.
Bilimungwe was everything I imagined a Bushcamp to be and more, the friendly staff made the experience even more special, from the host, to the guides and the talented spotters. I loved the location, far from all the other lodges and camps, this gave it a very intimate and personal feel. I loved the rustic yet comfortable and homely feel, the spacious rooms, indoor and outdoor shower and views onto the watering hole from the balcony. I loved sitting on the balcony with a coffee in hand and enjoying the quiet and peaceful surroundings. The food was delicious, the bush breakfasts a favourite and we even utilised the Pizza oven; a memorable touch to the whole experience.

Exceptional member of staff: Alex, Host/Manager: Alex is the host/manager at Bilimungwe, she was incredibly welcoming and friendly and was eager to get to know me. She also had a lot of great stories about the bush!

Walking here is brilliant and resident guide Manda is well known for his excellent guiding skills. He can teach you how a variety of things like how to determine the sex of an elephant by its footprints and how to ignore giraffe to get them to wander over. Additionally, he will show you the amazing birds, plants and trees in the valley.
From tracking lion to identifying insects, a walk is an incredible way to see the bush and learn, in depth, about how the animals of the valley all co-exist! If you fancy a bit more of a trek than a nature walk why not combine Bilimungwe with one of its sister bush camps and take the walk in between.
With three large waterholes at camp and a view of the river there is a wealth of wildlife on your doorstep. You will be entertained throughout your stay as the many animals come to drink and wallow in the water-who needs a TV when you have live action which you can view from your bed!
The bird life is also very good here from the resident water birds to those who come to hunt the local insects.
With only four chalets this is the perfect place for remote Africa. Be one of a maximum of 8 people in the camp where you can escape in total wilderness. With the chalets blending in perfectly with the surrounding landscape you can hide away in your chalet and pretend you are camping in an unexplored Africa!
Breakfast in the bush is a unique experience and thanks to the absolute remoteness of the camp, Bilimungwe has really nailed it. Enjoy their breakfast boma on the banks of the Luangwa River while watching the sunrise over the hippos. Breakfast bliss!
Bilimungwe is the most southern of the bush camps, you won’t see anyone else in the area (maybe another BCC car but maximum one or two). If you really want to get off the beaten track this is the place for walking. As you will only see wildlife, your guide and the footsteps of the animals you are tracking!
