South Luangwa and Lake Malawi

This safari gives you the opportunity to truly discover South Luangwa. You will learn lots about the eco-system and animals that call this park home. You will see a variety of animals of all shapes and sizes from the fascinating insects that live within animal droppings to tiny elephant shrews, delicate wide-eyed antelope, enormous giraffe and more. 

Following your time in South Luangwa, you will transfer to Lake Malawi.

Your first two nights will be spent at Tafika Camp. This camp is located on the west bank of the Luangwa River, north of the Nsefu Sector of the South Park making it ideal for those who enjoy the serenity of the bush.

 

 

Next up, Chikoko Trails. Chikoko Trails incorporates two small and exclusive bush camps, Chikoko Tree Camp and Crocodile River Camp, from which unparalleled walking safaris are offered, strolling from camp to camp.

To end this adventure you will spend three nights at Mumbo Island.

Itinerary

Day 1 - 3

Tafika, South Luangwa

On arrival in Lusaka, you will check in for the scheduled flight to Mfuwe, where you will be met by a driver from Remote Africa Safaris who will transfer you to South Luangwa National Park to stay at Tafika for the next 2 nights.

Tafika provides amazing views of the river offering a wonderful place to relax when not enjoying walking safaris, cycling trails, micro lighting, or day & night game drives.

Day 3 - 5

Chikoko Trails, South Luangwa

Today you will have a game drive transfer to Chikoko Trails where you will stay for the next 2 nights on a walking safari adventure.

Slightly upstream from the parent camp Tafika, Chikoko Trails is compromised of two camps: Chikoko Tree Camp and Crocodile River Camp. Both camps are only accessible by foot – a small price to pay for the freedom of a walking wilderness free of roads and cell phones!

Day 5 - 7

Crocodile Camp, South Luangwa

This morning you will have a game walk transfer to Crocodile Camp to spend the next 2 nights.

Set in a beautiful corner of the valley, in a true wilderness area where there are no roads, these camps have excellent game densities and offer guests a great opportunity to experience the bush on foot in isolated and natural surroundings.

Day 7 - 8

Tafika, South Luangwa

This morning you will have a game walk transfer to Tafika to spend the night.

Day 8 - 11

Mumbo Island, Lake Malawi

This morning you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport to take the scheduled flight to Lilongwe where you will be met by your private driver guide and transferred to Lake Malawi to Cape Maclear, where you will have a boat transfer to Mumbo Island to stay for the next 3 nights.

With a maze of massive underwater boulders, innumerable species of colourful cichlid fish and calm, clear water, the National Park offers what many consider the best freshwater snorkelling and SCUBA diving in the world.

Day 11

Homeward bound

Today you will be transferred to Lilongwe Airport to check in for your international flight home. We hope you enjoyed your trip!
