Zungulila Bushcamp

Zungulila is a remote and peaceful camp located in the south of the park. Based near natural springs it attracts huge herds of plains game which in turn attract the predators! With just four Meru style tents and relaxing outdoor baths, you can enjoy your creature comforts whilst spotting them…

Why we love Zungulila!

Colonial-themed luxury in the remote bush, surrounded by the call of the wild. The huge safari tents with outdoor showers/bath afford stunning views of the floodplain, as does the open thatched-roof seating area with open dining deck. Set in what amounts to a private concession operated by the Bush Camp Company, this is an unforgettable bespoke experience of Africa at its best, we didn’t encounter another vehicle in our 2 days here! Brilliant service went above and beyond; making our own pizza at our bush lunch, sundowners on the river, and exceptional guiding. Wildlife experiences so intimate you feel part of the plains.

Lodge Key Features

Remote

Zungulila is about a 4-hour drive south from the main gate. The nearest camp is its sister bush camp. The focus here is walking as you will not bump into any humans just wildlife! With just four rooms with outdoor baths, you can watch as huge buffalo herds wander by and elephants come to soak just as you do. If you want to make sure you are away from the crowds, have guaranteed sightings to yourself and can explore the untouched wilderness then this is the camp for you.

Walking

South Luangwa is the home of the walking safari and this camp is based around that activity. Although they do have game drive routes so you can get further afield the focus is on discovering the bush by foot. This makes for a great combination with some of the other bush camps and Mfuwe Lodge where there is a heavier focus on driving.

Natural springs

You will regularly wade through the springs on walks where you can soak your tired feet and cool off. Unique to this camp, the low water levels don’t attract hippos or crocs so you can enjoy using the steam as an organic dip pool! They also attract many animals all year round who use it as a water source to drink. It is the perfect area to watch game in comfort.

Client Reviews

  • Bush brilliance

Thanks to all for a lovely stay . Mishek and his team were just great . Kind, attentive and knowledgable . The ‘tents’ were really beautiful . The heat was insane while I was there and cold water in the outdoor bath at siesta time was a luxurious way to cool down . Excellent food. Excellent wildlife and sightings.

  • Only just the beginning…

Zungulila camp was our second stop in the park. We spent a night at the Mufwe Lodge and then two nights here. What a beautiful setting! MUST TAKE ADVANTANGE OF THE TIN TUBS IN EACH UNIT! We enjoyed the “outdoor” shower so much and were so tired from the safari drives, we didn’t take advantage of the tubs and should have! Besides all that, the accommodations were remarkable. Like going back into a 1940’s movie about Africa. Great attention to detail. Food was great.

  • Peaceful tented game camp

We spent two nights in this remote tented camp during 6 days in Zambia. We loved the simplicity of it, the friendliness and competence of the camp staff, and the food. It is strictly solar-powered, so we had to make some adjustments in connection with charging cell phones and camera batteries, and learned to get ready for bed and to go out on safari every morning with limited light sources. It was cold in the mornings and at night during our visit, and we appreciated the hot water bottles in our bed.

  • Honeymoon in the wilderness

We spent three nights and four days at Zungulila during our honeymoon in Zambia. We absolutely loved the experience – it’s so remote and wild, with no electricity (except for solar) and complete peace and tranquility. The rooms are beautiful, with big copper bathtubs on the deck and dual showers. The drives are brilliant and Mishek was a really great guide. We enjoyed all of our drives, walking and driving, and we saw so much wildlife. The team at Zungulila were fantastic and we felt so well looked after by everyone there. The food was diverse and delicious every single day, even when having lunch in the bush or sundowners!
