Time + Tide Luwi

Time + Tide Luwi is one of five Time + Tide camps in South Luangwa, it is their most rustic and remote camp, located in the northern section of the park. The camp is based next to a grove of stunning mahogany trees near a flood plain. It is an exclusive camp, there are just five thatched chalets, each hidden among the trees and unique in its own way. They are basic yet comfortable with open en-suite bathrooms and a walk-in hot water shower and flushing toilet.

The camp has a brilliant hippo hide, allowing you to get up and close to the action around camp. During the dry season, you can have a sleep-out under the stars! A truly magical experience.

Why we love Time + Tide Luwi!

I loved the rustic and remoteness of Luwi Bush Camp. The thatched chalets have a perfect blend of comfort and nature, overlooking the dry riverbed of the Luwi River. There is a lagoon approximately 200 meters from the camp, which has an abundance of hippos, crocs and some fantastic birdlife. The photography hide is also a pretty cool addition, and this is the perfect place to hang out in between morning and afternoon activities. As always, the Time+Tide vehicles are modern and in fantastic condition with bucket seats and compartments for your camera too. The highlight for me was the sleepout by the Luwi River. A stunning 4km walk along the river to the sleepout location, arriving in time for sunset…a WOW experience.

Lodge Key Features

Walking

Due to its remoteness, the focus here is walking safaris. There are no other camps in the vicinity, so you can happily explore the surrounding area in the knowledge, that you are on your own. The expert guides will show you how they track the larger animals, stopping to show you footprints and spoor whilst pointing out some of the smaller animals often missed on a game drive. Explore the valley as its founders once did, by foot! However, if you’d rather discover the bush by 4 wheels, Time + Tide Luwi also provides fantastic game drives.

Intimate travel

Time + Tide Luwi is an exclusive camp, offering just five chalets. It is catered well towards solo travellers as meals are in a communal setting and single supplements are only in the high season. Enjoy the intimate atmosphere that is created by the team at this intimate and rustic camp.

Back to basics in comfort

Time + Tide Luwi is the most rustic Time + Tide bush camp, however, don’t let that put you off. It is still extremely comfortable; huge beds, en-suite bathrooms and top-quality mosquito nets – do you need much more in the bush? We don’t think so! This is how the real bush should be enjoyed, without anything unnecessary. That being said you still have a flushing toilet, hot water, delicious food and, of course, somewhere you can lay your head after a long day of safari activities.

Client Reviews

  • Outstanding — do the walking!

We did a 4 camp, 8 day safari through Luwi, N’solo, Kakuli and Mchenja camps and it was wonderful. These are largely WALKING safaris; you should walk if you can. You see the same critters (and you see everything), at their level, in the silence of the bush ( no engine). You learn about the small stuff that is context for the big stuff. There is a bit of tricky footing, but it is basically flat. The guides are wonderful and capable. You are safe and you should do this.

  • Great Camp- Staff are Wonderful

Lawrence and his staff are excellent, so helpful and knowledgeable.
Walking safari with Lawrence is the best, he is great at passing his knowledge on of the animals and countryside. It makes the Safari so much more interesting.
Food was great and accommodation is very natural. I loved it.

  • Loveliest place I have ever been!

I absolutely loved it here! It is so remote and peaceful and the beautiful little camp sits in harmony with its environment so well. The rooms were wonderful: very attractive and incredibly comfortable. Nights were cold and we found hot water bottles tucked under the sheets when we retired so were soon warm! Even the bathrooms are exquisite! The camp fire area is fab and we enjoyed wonderful breakfasts and coffees there at dawn and drinks before dinner post-safari. The food is excellent here, as at other Norman Carr camps.

  • Remote beautiful location

This was my second stop in South Luangwa National Park. It was different from Kakula but still unique and an awesome experience. Once you arrive you are greated with a warm smile by Emanuel and a lovely shandy! I loved the walking safari’s and was very fortunate to have Chilumba and Amon all to my self during the walks. I still can’t believe all of the information Chilumba knows and was able to share about the area!
