Lodge Key Features

Walking

Kuyenda bush camp is in one of the best walking areas of South Luangwa, offering a variety of different landscapes. The game is prolific and relaxed. Walks are an exciting way to learn how to track big game by foot but also get to know some of the smaller creatures, plants, trees and birds of the valley. Learn to recognise the calls of the birds or the alarm snort from a Puku. Be at one with nature as you embark on an exciting adventure.

Rooms

Forget gold taps and WiFi get back to the classic African bush camp at Kuyenda. Built new each season, the four rooms are simple yet comfortable thatch rondavels with large beds, mosquito nets and a few simple furnishings. There is also an open en-suite bathroom with large safari shower and flushing toilets. With panoramic views of the surrounding bush you can watch as the game ambles by camp.

Food

Staying at Kuyenda is much more like visiting family than staying in a lodge. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere is mirrored in the kitchen with great home cooked food. From hearty porridge in the morning before you head off to huge buffets of salads, pies, quiches, pastas and fresh fruit. In the evening, you have a 3 course meal which is both filling and tasty.

Client Reviews

  • Bushy brilliance

I visited 3 of the bushcamps during this trip and this was easily my favourite . More rustic and intimate than the others. Impeccable guiding and hosting from Susio, Jacob, Boniface, Aaron and the rest of the boys. Lovely wee chalets in a pretty setting . Excellent food. Excellent wildlife and activities . I was woken in the middle of the night by Ginger the lion roaring loudly outside the chalet #safariproblems. My husband got his torch out and we could see Ginger from our bed!

  • Beautiful

Kuyenda is a traditional bush camp but with all the comforts you could need and want in the bush. The huts are well appointed, big and airy, with large comfy beds and outdoor bathroom (connected to the room and safely closed up). When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you see are the amazing colors of dawn. Jacob is a great host, catering to all your needs and Susio is an enthusiastic and very competent guide. It was a pleasure to be with both.

  • A great place to stay

We stayed at Kuyenda after 3 nights at one of the other Bush camps. It is very different from Kapamba but hardly ‘basic’. The only element that could be construed as basic is the lack of hot running water but given 20 minutes notice they will prepare hot water for showers. The camp itself is beautifully set up and the dining/relaxing area is really lovely and very romantic. The food is delicious and the staff generally really make sure they listen to your requests and will fulfil them.

  • Spectacular setting and service

We stayed at Kuyenda Bushcamp in June for a couple of nights. It was magic, the service provided by the staff was first rate and the setting was spectacular. Early morning and late afternoon game drives which included sundowners as the sun set in the African plain, make your own pizzas in a wood fired oven, and dinner under the stars were experiences that we will never forget.
