Somalisa Camp

If you are looking for peace and quiet but thrive off adventure then Somalisa Camp is exactly where you will get the best of both worlds. The national park offers so much excitement around every corner and you will be blown away with the sightings, as well as the contrast of the forest and the open plains around. The camp is stylish and offers complete luxury from the rooms to the main area and it is evident throughout that you are getting extravagance in the heart of the bush.

Why we love Somalisa Camp!

Somalisa is for me the most high-end camp in Hwange. Wild and luxurious, as per African Bush Camps standards they have not missed anything. The rooms are beautiful. The deck overlooking the amazing pool and watering hole is perfect for watching the wildlife go by. The food is world class and the staff are just fantastic, especially Tony one of the managers at Somalisa. Nothing was too much to ask. Amazing spot but I would save this for peak season as the grass was quite high here in April and tough to spot the wildlife.

Lodge Key Features

Eco-Friendly

Lodges around are becoming increasingly aware of the effects on our beautiful planet and Somalisa Camp have put into play an ingenious plan to help. For every single living tree that was used in the ‘reincarnation’ of Somalisa another 20 were planted, thus helping Somalisa to become an eco-friendly safari camp. The camp used recycled building materials, they operate on solar-power and they also have a system that purifies 80% of the water that has been used.

Sleep-out Platform

Get away from camp and head to the raised sleep-out platform, there is truly no better way to experience the bush than sleeping right under the stars and it also overlooks the waterhole. Don’t worry though, there will be a guide close by that sleeps in a tent a little further away, and if you require the loo in the middle of the night there is a toilet on the ground below your raised platform.

Birding

The park has some of the most incredible birding in the country. Your guides are passionate about everything in the wild so if you are keen on birds then be sure to make this known, they will help you capture some wonderful sightings photos. If you sit on the deck you can also enjoy the delightful songs of a number of species.

Client Reviews

  • Excellent facilities

I cannot praise this place enough. The facilities, food, staff were excellent. Our guide Albert was the most knowledgeable guide I have ever come across. From the animals, plant life and even the solar system he was just perfect. If you want the ultimate safari wildlife experience then this place is for you.

  • Awesome experience

Somalisa was our second safari camp and it combined amazing service with the authentic bush feel! Game drives with Raymond were amazing – both in the vehicle and on a ‘walkabout’ in the bush! African Bush camp properties make sure every detail is taken care of when we traveled from camp to camp! Not a single glitch! Saw more animals that we ever dreamed of and got a university level education in each species, plants, birds, insects, tracking, etc. etc. Our last night there, as we were relaxing on the deck, 34 elephants came up to drink and say good-bye!! Amazing and very spiritual!

  • Relax among elephants in a spectacular setting

This was our first safari and first tented camp. We did not expect it to be a luxurious oasis and so stunningly beautiful with every detail in harmony with the landscape. The photos online don’t do it justice. We were comfortable even in the late afternoon heat thanks to our sail tent set up to funnel in the afternoon wind. I came for the elephants and enjoyed sitting by the waterhole right in camp watching the herds come and go all day.
