Luangwa Safari House

This impressive Luangwa Safari House sits on the edge of a lagoon with the Chindeni hills for a backdrop, overlooking the national park. This is the ultimate retreat for a group wanting to do its own thing without other guests. Each of the four spacious rooms has an en-suite bathroom and private veranda. It is fully contained with your own staff and guide, allowing you to have your own schedule, perfect for those with niche interests.

Experience Rating

Experience Ratings Explained

The star ratings are based on a variety of different criteria.

Namely it is a comparative aspect against the other lodges in this country and/or area. We like to think of this rating as a mix of the accommodation (please do remember just because the rating is lower doesn’t mean it is a bad lodge more that it maybe more of a rustic nature), guiding and wildlife in the area, food, safety and general vibe.

The lower ratings tend to either be due to being a rustic lodge or being in e.g a busy area of the park. This should be used as a general guide but please do contact us for more detail or check out the reasons why we love these lodges.

Lodge Key Features

Privacy

As you have your own house with your own staff, you can make your own schedule and beat to your own drum. If you want to get up a little earlier to catch the sunrise or do some star spotting it is not a problem. You also have your own chef, who can cater to your needs- providing banquet feasts at night, if you so desire.

It really is just about discussing with your hosts to meet your needs for activities, food and comfort. This is after all your home from home in the bush! Away from other guests and lodges.

Location

The house is based in a game management area so you are not constricted by park rules. This means you (and your family) can go on short walks with the guide (to his discretion) to learn how to track, bird calls and to see some smaller creatures. Don’t be fooled though you are just across the river from the park and will often have animals in camp (particularly elephants who love crossing the river) so you will still see plenty. And, of course, you cross the river for the game drives!

There is also a wildlife hide near the house where you can sit and observe the wildlife without them knowing of your presence. A fantastic opportunity for the entire family to get up close to the game of South Luangwa.

Guiding

Robin Pope is long known for its excellent guiding and with your own personal guide, you can get as niche as you like. Love birding? Spend an afternoon watching the birds that come and go. Love insects? Only want to see leopards? Yearning for that magical photography shot? Just ask your guide and he will do his best to make it happen! This experience is yours, so make it one to remember.

Client Reviews

  • Magical

Without doubt one of the most amazing places we have stayed. You can just sit in the plunge pool or the viewing areas and watch you own personal safari wander by. We all left with a feeling that we had been somewhere very special and unique. The food was excellent and the staff brilliant.
