Ruckomechi

Ruckomechi looks out over the Zambezi waterfront on a large private concession in Mana Pools National Park. Remote seclusion, this lovely spot offers its guests a private safari experience. There are 10 well-appointed large tents that stretch along the river, offering panoramic views of the mountains and woodland over the river. In an area where the game is rich and the habitat varied you don’t have to venture out into the park to get a wonderful, intimate safari experience.

Lodge Key Features

Canoeing on the Zambezi

If you like to experience new and exciting ways to see the wildlife and from a completely different angle, then make sure you experience canoeing down the Zambezi River. It is far more thrilling that it sounds and an incredible way to get closer to the wildlife. Not only will you pass a number of hippos on your journey but it’s a wonderful way to enjoy the birdlife along the river too. Try head out at the right time of day (ask your guide) and you could encounter elephants taking a bath.

The personal touches

Whether you are out on a game drive or relaxing in the main area and taking in the beauty of the surroundings, Ruckomechi creates wonderful and personal experiences to its guests. With its unique features around camp to add to the experiences, you will want more time here to make sure you make the most of their personal touches. Enjoy some down time in the pool that looks over the river, or relax in the outdoor bath with the bush and the noises of the wildlife surrounding you. There is even a star bed, right near a waterhole…a must! All these additions create a memorable stay.

River Activities

The great thing about the camp being outside the park and on the stretch of water it is on, is it is the only place in the area where you can enjoy water-based activities with a motorised boat. A great way to see the wild from a completely different perspective is heading out on a boat safari, adding to the number of other activities you can enjoy which also include catch and release fishing trips (equipment not supplied) and the charming sunset cruise, which is by far the best way to end the day…watching the sun set over water.

Client Reviews

  • Ruckomechi camp

One should avoid using superlatives however in the case of Ruckomechi Camp the rule must be broken. The apparent effortlessness with which the organizers combine service, gourmet cuisine and setting with an authentic wildlife experience is quite extraordinary. Magnificent facilities quietly enhance the offering. It’s almost impossible to put a price on this experience because it is truly outstanding.

  • Wow, absolutely wow

Right from the Airstrip our adventure began with our guide Tongo, who took us for a short game drive to the camp. Upon arrival at the camp we were welcomed with home made ginger juice, shown our room and quickly refreshed before tea time and then the 4pm game drive. Tongo was amazing and extremely knowledgeable about all the animals, and plants and tracking foot prints. The camp is amazing, our tent was a family tent and very spacious will all amenities. On the game drives we saw 5 leopards, lions, elephants, hippos and lots more. All the staff are amazing and will ensure that you are well cared for.

  • Return trip to marvelous Ruckomechi!

This was our second visit to Ruckomechi and most certainly not the last !! The camp has been beautifully refurbished and is looking great. Our room was very spacious and in the shade of enormous Mahogony trees. The main area has been enlarged and being with friends this time, was a great area to spend lunches and dinners together. There was constant wildlife activity at the deck, from ellies.,hippo water birds etc.
