Originally the home of Robin Pope himself, it has now been turned into a family house for the families that want privacy and exclusivity. With its own kitchen and chef, private vehicle and guide it is fully self contained (although just down from Nkwali, should you need the swimming pool!). This is one of the few places you can have children of all ages and gives the flexibility for you to decide your activities around your children’s schedules.

A safari can be an incredible experience for those with children but often tricky when you are around other guests and certain activities have age limits. Here, thanks to being a private house, your kids can fully immerse themselves into learning all about the bush from footprints to feathers and poop to bird calls. Your private guide can take them round the house to show them how to be a mini-guide themselves.
You are away from other guests so if your little ones do decide to throw the mother of all tantrums, they are only going to get themselves into trouble, not the parents! Get your children involved in nature and let them discover the wonder of the wilderness.
As you have your own house with your own staff you can make your own timings. Your kids need a lie in? No problem. You want a snack? No problem. Fancy an early night? No problem! Just discuss with your hosts to meet your needs for activities, food and comfort. After all, this is your home from home in the bush!
The house is based in a game management area so you are not constricted by park rules. This means your little ones can go on short walks with the guide (to his discretion) to learn how to track, to learn to bird and to see some smaller creatures.
Don’t be fooled though you are just across the river from the park and will often have animals in camp (particularly elephants who love crossing the river) so you will still see plenty. And, of course, you will cross the river for the game drives!
The Luangwa Valley is not necessarily the easiest place to take 3 young children (6-10 years) – but Robin’s House at Nkwali is a great option. It is separate from the main lodge and you have your own dedicated guide/driver and vehicle so your timetable is at your own discretion. There is a small plunge pool as well far enough away from the main camp not to worry about disturbing other guests.
Service is attentive but not intrusive. The house is plenty spacious and well designed for the heat in September – both indoors and outdoors were good seating areas. As expected so far from a supermarket, the food was simple, but it was always freshly prepared and very edible.
This was our second stay @ a Robin Pope property in two years because we were so happy with our first stay. We stayed in Robin’s House & it was perfect for a family of four. It has two bedrooms — one with three & a possibility of a fourth twin beds. Both bedrooms have an en suite bathroom. The master bathroom is very large with a rain shower & free-standing old-fashionedd tub. There is a large deck where we had breakfast lunch & dinner. There is also a dining area inside if it gets too cold or windy outside. Even tho we were there in the winter & it was chilly night & mornings we never considered using it. Our major domo Michael was always on hand from the time we got up til the time we turned in. We had a hot breakfast every morning & a full lunch plus diner served on our private deck. Since we had the house, we ate when we wanted & went out on the games drives & returned on our own schedule.
