Chamilandu Bush camp

Chamilandu is one of the Bushcamp Company’s bush camps. A small intimate camp set among a gorgeous ebony grove on the banks of the river, it is stylish yet comfortable. There are just three thatched chalets set up on stilts allowing animals to wander underneath and giving you a great view of the surrounding bush.

Why we love Chamilandu!

We will be visiting Chamilandu soon.

Lodge Key Features

Intimate

With just three chalets and a maximum of 6 guests, this is one of the smallest camps in the valley. Here meals and activities can be tailored to the individual or for groups travelling together. It is a classic bush camp that feels like you are in the heart of the bush but without sacrificing any comforts like hot showers, great food and beds you could spend all day in!

Walking

South Luangwa is the home of the walking safari. A walking safari is the best way to discover the smaller creatures and gain insight into tracking the animals, to learn about the trees and bushes and see the excellent bird life. The bush camps all follow a route down the centre of the park and you can walk between them. We would recommend picking a couple of camps to stay at so you can take an adventure to your next destination.

If walking isn’t for you, you can enjoy a game drive instead, cover more ground and, probably, see more wildlife.

Open rooms

As the rooms are raised, the front of the bedroom and bathroom are open to the elements. Enjoy unrivalled views over the park and feel immersed into nature. You can comfortably (and safely) stay in your room and observe the wildlife around you!

Client Reviews

  • Where is the 6th star??

If TA allowed a sixth star, I would give it to this place. They picked us up from the Mfuwe Lodge, it was getting dark, so the drive to the camp became an en-route night game drive. Having done a number of safaris in Africa, you know how difficult can be spotting a leopard: we spotted our first one right there, crossing the road in front of us. Before we arrived to the camp, we also spotted hyenas and a number of hyppos having their supper in the fields. The accommodation was fantastic. A tree-house with a big bedroom and a big bathroom, built by some obviously very skilled craftsman with understated elegance.

  • WOW!!!!!!

I have spent 6 days in 3 camps of The Bushcamp Company and it has been amazing. Already the transfer from Mfuwe Lodge to the first camp was incredible, besides the “usual” wildlife we also saw wild dogs and a pride of lions eating a dead elephant. The camps are all very small (3 or 4 tents/cottages) and offer a similar high standard of services, however each camp has its own personality and unique location.

  • Just perfect!

I loved my stay at Chamilandu so much I teared up when I left. Fanuel and his staff took such great care of me – a solo traveler – during my two nights there. My stay was magical. I’ll readily admit that doing without wifi or a hair dryer for two nights made me nervous before I got there, but I readily got into the flow and frankly, I was happy to be off the grid for a couple of days! Fanuel is a wonderful guide and I learned so much. It was magical to be so isolated in that part of the park; we rarely saw another land rover. We did a couple walking safaris, which I loved! It was great to see things from the ground and I learned so much. The staff was just lovely.

  • Wonderful camp

We booked four camps run by the Bushcamp Company and Chamilandu was the first we visited. The camp was great. The staff including the manager and guide Fanuell was very friendly and highly motivated. The food was very good. The walking-safari to the next camp was the highlight. We learned much about fauna and flora by Fanuell. We were really impressed. Many thanks for the homemade and delicious pizza for lunch at our last day in the nature.
