Flatdogs, Jackalberry Treehouse & Crocodile Nest

Flatdogs camp has a variety of accommodation, this includes the more intimate and private Jackalberry Treehouse and the Croc’s Nest. The treehouse is rustic and built around ebony trees. It has unspoilt views across a lagoon which is frequently visited by the local residents. The Crocs Nest a tented house which offers views over the river. Crocs Nest is not as ‘wild’ as the treehouse and offers a more luxurious stay to guests with 2 rooms, private dining and a private pool.

Experience Ratings Explained

The star ratings are based on a variety of different criteria.

Namely it is a comparative aspect against the other lodges in this country and/or area. We like to think of this rating as a mix of the accommodation (please do remember just because the rating is lower doesn’t mean it is a bad lodge more that it maybe more of a rustic nature), guiding and wildlife in the area, food, safety and general vibe.

The lower ratings tend to either be due to being a rustic lodge or being in e.g a busy area of the park. This should be used as a general guide but please do contact us for more detail or check out the reasons why we love these lodges.

The Treehouse

If you want something a little more private and rustic, then the treehouse at Flatdogs is perfect for a more intimate safari experience. Sitting about 8 feet of the ground you can enjoy game viewing with no one else around from the comfort of your 3 decks. Each of the rooms are en-suite, have king size beds and too offer incredible views over the lagoon. IF there are 4 guests staying then the camp will provide a private vehicle and guide. You can enjoy dinners at the main camp and will be escorted back to the treehouse by your guide in the car. It is also good to note that the treehouse is only available during the dry season every year (5th April to 15th November). It is the perfect spot to enjoy a few days in the bush.

The Crocodiles Nest

Larger and more luxurious than the treehouse this is also a great place to enjoy a private and intimate safari. The views are over the Luangwa River, sit on your private deck by the pool and enjoy as the animals come down for a graze and drink. There are 2 bedrooms, both en-suite, inside and outside living areas and private dining facilities. You can order your meals from the main restaurant and have them delivered to the house. The Crocs Nest also comes with a private vehicle and guide, adding to the intimacy of your stay. Although the Crocs Nest is part of Flatdogs camp you feel like you are on a completely private safari away from the crowds. It is great for families and couples.

    We enjoyed our experience at the treehouse – great up close and personal wildlife watching in a very unique but still plenty comfortable setting.
    The staff at the lodge were very friendly (special shoutouts to Lydia for always greeting us with a smile on her face and Jephet for guarding the house against monkeys while we were out).

  • Croc’s nest is amazing!!

    We’ve had the best experience ever at the Croc’s nest at Flatdogs Camp. Jonathan is the best possible guide that you can imagine!! He has a lot of knowledge and this combined with his respect for the animals and nature is beyond my expectations. We’ve seen it all. Elephants next to the pool.. Girafs at the camp… I would go back whenever I could!!! All the staff is just as nice… Amazing!!

  • Wonderful stay at Flatdogs!

    My gf & I just completed a 3 night stay in the Jackelberry Treehouse at Flatdogs. What a perfect experience. We had a fantastic time.
    The treehouse can be occupied by 2 couples – but we had it all to ourselves. A dedicated attendant is provided and was always available for anything we needed.
