Kapamba Bushcamp

Set in the south of the valley, it is set upon the Kapamba River edge. Kapamba comprises of just four chalets. The chalets are open but remain secluded with massive baths and plunge pools, perfect to lounge and observe the wildness of the bush from.

Open for a much longer season than most bush camps, it is the perfect place to explore this beautiful safari destination with a loved one. Enjoy candlelit dinners in the shallows of the river or a bubble bath for two in between incredible sightings of lions, leopards and elephants, who walk through the camp! Kapamba is both romantic and luxurious.

Why we love Kapamba!

The luxury chalets overlooking the river and public area are charming, the camp serves extremely tasty food, the hosts are fantastic and the guiding is exceptional. A personal highlight of mine was sundowners and a bush dinner on the river.

Lodge Key Features

Huge baths

One of the best things about this camp must be the huge rooms with what can only be described as a bathroom plunge pool (of which you have another outside – the river!). The story goes the measurements were given to the builders in centimetres but built in inches… Their mistake is our good fortune! They remarkably fill in record time and to continue the romance, there is, of course, room for two!

Water

If your huge bath didn’t provide quite enough water for you, there’s a natural paddling pool which is very clean and clear! The Kapamba River flows right through the camp where you can wade through the cool waters. You can even set up a bean bag and dip your feet during a sundowner or request a special lunch and watch the elephants come by, adding to the romantic charm. Just make sure with the team that the water is safe to enter before fully embracing it which it should be as due to its clarity there are no fish and subsequently no crocs and it’s too shallow for hippos.

Long season

Unlike most bush camps that are open from June to November, Kapamba is open from April to January. If you are looking for walking specialists and remote wilderness out of the high season, Kapamba is one of the very few choices in the Valley.

Enjoy the camp in the lush green seasons when the birding is fantastic, the scenery is green and lush, and the baby animals begin to arrive!

Client Reviews

  • An experience never to be forgotten

We stayed 3 nights in Kapamba and loved every minute of it. Julius the camp manager ran the camp brilliantly with great food and a superb team. The rooms were big and lovely and each night we had hot water bottles. The room overlooked the river with a metal grid keeping the wild animals at bay. Sitting in your room you could see elephants washing, impala running and one night we had 7 hyenas going around the camp. Steve the guide were superb and the way the tracked the animals was amazing . We managed to see 9 leopard, we had elephants threatening to charge as well as seeing giraffe necking which was an amazing sight.

  • Very good

Kapamba was the third camp of our tour in South Luangwa. It is a little bit different from the other camps of the Bushcamp Company because of the open front of the big chalet. But you can close the front with a grid that there is no problem with animals (except the honey badger in a neighbour chalet). The staff, the food and the guiding were very good. A big surprise was the sundowner in a river. It was very romantic. Our guide was James and he was truly fantastic.

  • Wonderful expericence

We had a wonderful time at Kapamba. Steve was a really good host, guiding and managing at the same time. The chalet was large, beautifully designed, and in excellent shape. The elevated private lounge deck was our favourite spot in the camp, chilling and watching the animals (especially the two camp elephants) at the river was the best. We were feeling totally spoiled with all the wonderful food and the friendly and attentive service from Mwase. We specifically enjoyed the walking safaris with Steve along the beautiful Riverside of the Kapamba and Luangwa. Great animal sightings – we look forward to coming back!

  • Authentic Bushcamp with outstanding staff

We stayed 4 nights at Kapamba. The rooms are nice, authentic and with only 4 rooms everyone has the absolute privacy. The Kapamba river provides enough to see, even you relax over lunch.
Beside the fantastic food, interesting habitats with nice wildlife around, the sould of Kapamba is Julius!
Julius and his team provided us an outstanding vacation. We felt like friends, whom the host wants to provide a real good time. Thank you so much for that. I will not talk about the wonderful surprises, you did for us, in order not to tell them to the next visitors – but it was just lovely.
