‘One of my all-time favourites! The guides and staff here are some of the best I’ve encountered. It was great to learn new tricks on the camera and come home with some special images to share. The equipment, rooms, staff and food here really are incredible. If you want to take epic pictures and hone your photography skills, Pangolin Chobe Hotel is for you.

The nicest thing we found here was no matter your ability, you will learn something, from finding out where the on button is to learning how to produce panning shots. The guides here are patient, funny and knowledgeable.
It didn’t feel like the usual classroom environment and the best part is getting into the field to put all the information into action. Even though some of the guests had massive lenses and more than one camera it never felt like us novices were on the backburner and with so many willing models in the park we didn’t have to drive far to start getting our shots.
Camera enthusiasts get ready to fan over the beautiful lenses and up to date cameras the lodge lends out during your stay! Each guest is set up with a Canon 5Diii and a sigma 600mm lens (unless, of course, you’d prefer to use your own equipment). The boats all have swivel chairs with specialised ‘tripods’ which the cameras pop into, so you can shoot from almost any angle. The game truck (Unimog) is equipped with several resting vantage points so everyone can shoot from both sides of the vehicle on game drives.
As your guides join you on safari, the lesson is taken out of the classroom and into the field, allowing you to fire away questions and pick up hints and tips. It is really a great experience for anyone that wishes to learn and improve! After a day of snapping, you can visit the hotels light room to edit your shots. The guides are around to instruct you through this process too. With a fantastic exhibition of the guides own pictures displayed throughout the hotel, it’s hard not to feel inspired!
Aside from all the specialist equipment, the hotel itself is gorgeous. For those that maybe take photography as a hobby or have been dragged along by a keen partner, there is plenty to keep you happy in between activities: the lodge staff can arrange for you to visit the nearby rehabilitation centre to see how the locals care for wildlife that needs a helping hand – they even have a hand reared orphan honey badger! They have an extensive cocktail list, which is included in your nightly stay, a eco-friendly pool and often have four-legged visitors to the watering hole at the front of the hotel. The food here is incredible and the chef is hilarious- be sure to chat with him. The rooms are beautiful, clean and airy so you can simply relax and enjoy a bit of rest! There is Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel so you can start uploading all your fabulous pics!
