Shumba is a luxurious and spacious camp with a very ‘African bush’ feel, it is situated in the very heart of the gorgeous Busanga Plains. You can enjoy views of the stunning floodplains throughout the camp. The lodge is built off the ground and well spread out, it blends in beautifully with its surroundings and you will often see wildlife around the lodge during the days. The lounge area is very comfortable and the campfire a great focal point. Sit around the open fire on the sunken deck with a drink of your choice and enjoy the sounds of the wild for miles around.
You are right in the wilderness when staying here, a far more remote location than some camps and lodges, you get a sense that there is no one around for miles. The pool looking over the open flood plains was a favourite spot to relax and enjoy the afternoons. Great food and exceptional guides – definitely a favourite.

The lodge is built on a raised platform with wooden walkways and boasts 6 luxurious tented rooms, this includes one larger tent which can be used as a family unit. Each room has two large queen-sized beds, a spacious en-suite bathroom which has both indoor and outdoor showers, and a spectacular view from your balcony or bed – observe the wild and relish the beautiful surroundings. The main area is comfortable and stylish, enjoy a dip in the pool during the warm days, relax on the deck and look out onto the never-ending plains or sit by the fire in the evenings and enjoy some quality stargazing – it’s a magical part of the world.
Shumba Lodge is appropriately named after the prides of lion that are regularly seen in the area. Not only this but leopard are common, and the area is also home to a number of other wonderful animals, Elephant, wild dog, buffalo, wildebeest and antelope; to name a few. If you are passionate about your birds this place is a birders paradise, with up to nearly 500 species. With views from the lodge onto the plains you can catch regular sightings of large amounts of Puku and Lechwe without leaving the site.
A hot air balloon ride is a must. The views are breath-taking, watch the wild animals below from a superb view above. You get a better sense and understanding to just how incredible the plains are and can enjoy some of the most picturesque views and stunning sunrises in Africa.
