Royal Zambezi Lodge

Where luxury meets the wild Royal Zambezi is the perfect lodge to stay at on the Lower Zambezi if you fancy high comfort levels whilst experiencing all that the area has to offer. Including some of the best fishing on the river, a great bush spa and plunge pools for each luxury room, the lodge is also the favourite hang out spot for the elephants in the area! You don’t even need to leave the comfort of your own room to spot wildlife.

Why we love Royal Zambezi Lodge!

One of the originals, they are brilliant; from personal service to some of the best guidesI’ve had! The addition of the hide and waterhole next to the lodge has just upped their already high standard! We managed to see a tiny baby elephant just after it had been born- magical!

Royal Zambezi is one of those places where it really feels like home with exceptional attention to detail and a wonderful personal touch. It is somewhere I would go back again and again!

Lodge Key Features

Location

Based on the river, the location of Royal Zambezi is perfect for those interested in water activities, with some of the best fishing on the river as well as epic sunset boat cruises! Although it is just outside the park in a GMA (game management area) you won’t compromise on wildlife sightings and of course you can get straight to the water if you want to explore by boat or canoe! With the addition of the hide just minutes away from the lodge there is an immense concentration of wildlife in the area. You could easily spend a morning or afternoon here!

Rooms

The lodge combines the perfect balance of keeping in theme with its surroundings with a beautiful modern simplistic style with extreme comfort. The views of the surrounding wilderness are epic, with elephants as regular sightings you can enjoy wildlife viewing from the minute you enter your room! With all rooms overlooking the river and the luxury suites having their own plunge pool and outdoor showers, you would be forgiven for skipping a drive and staying put watching the animals as they visit the river sipping on a cold drink from the pool!

Guides

The guides at Royal Zambezi are outstanding, all of whom have been there for a long time. They know the area like the back of their hand and can identify the individual animals they have watched for years. Each activity has specialist guides from those who are experts at birding to those who know where the best spots are for tiger fishing, game drive guides, walking guides, canoeing guides-they have them all! They pride themselves on their guiding and have purposely chosen to staff a larger guiding team than the norm, which really sets them apart from its competitors and means guests are well looked after and almost guaranteed to see/do exactly what they want to (within reason- sadly they cant produce miracles or unicorns!).

Client Reviews

  • If you want wildlife and luxury this is the place

The Royal Zambezi is in a class of its own. I imagine most if not all the guests arrive by airplane provided by the Royal Zambezi Charter Company, a great introduction in itself. After landing we were greeted by the staff and after a quick filling out of forms, we went to our rooms. The filling out of forms involved one of the local elephants coming onto the grounds and looking at us while we filled in those forms. The Royal Zambezi is a gem. If you are contemplating the trip of a lifetime, this is a great candidate for one of the stops.

  • Looking for “Royal” treatment – Stop at the “Royal Zambezi Lodge”

My wife and I were a part of the motley crowd of 30 people that spent 2 nights at the Royal Zambezi Lodge last week on an exciting fishing expedition. The list of compliments are endless, but I would highlight a few that remarkably stood out.
    • Despite being vegetarians, the chef’s culinary talents caressed our appetites with passion.
    • The ethnic vibrancy of the lodge’s interiors, levitates you to a bygone era of simplicity.
